    Synopsis

EJ is a son of proud Filipino immigrants, who owns a nightclub and spends his days and nights dealing drugs and partying to the wildest of excesses. At a drug deal in Florida during Carnival, things begin to take a turn for the worse when a strung-out Colombian middleman flushes $25,000 worth of cocaine down the toilet. EJ’s bodyguard attempts to throw Mickey off a 10-story hotel balcony. Soon, the IRS is after EJ and he fears that he's made too many risky deals.

He flees to Hawaii to start a new life and gets clean. He manages a local restaurant and develops a new appreciation for his culture and for life. He has a brief romance with a beautiful French-Canadian woman whom he takes to a legendary luau. After saving a family leader’s child from choking, he is accepted in the island community of Lahaina. However, he can't outrun his past forever, as one of his old dealing buddies, Dee, finds him in his island hideout.

Despite EJ's protests, Dee gets him hooked on cocaine and EJ returns to his old lifestyle of partying and drugs. He hires and dates a young woman, Robin, who warns that his dangerous behaviors will catch up to him, but he doesn't believe her. It hits him late one night, she's the narcotics agent that had been setting him up for months. The drug bust occurs just before dawn and he’s hauled to jail where he has visions of chasing a white rabbit while in withdrawals. After he is served extradition papers, his attorney conveys that he'll have a better court case if he returns to California to change lives. There he works for county mental health and has impact on the system but soon has to quit to serve his time. Luckily, he plea bargains a deal to drop the sexual entrapment charges and in return, reduces a fifty year sentence to only two.

He rivals the ‘Prison King’ and has a violent altercation but generally keeps his nose clean and is able to get out early. He goes back to mental health work, determined to make a real difference, and does. He gets married and finds spirituality and recovery.
