Short Summary

Eva Lins is a roboticist who seeks isolation on a Jupiter moon to forget about a failed love affair. Working with only five people in a huge industrial complex, the engineer finds herself in the ideal environment until the arrival of a new co-worker: the doctor Viktor Werther.

After falling in love, Eva and Viktor discover they are highly advanced androids that carry memories of dead people. Both question whether the feelings they feel are real and what the true nature of love is.

Development Pitch

I believe "Eden Station" can be adapted as a movie in first place because of the empathy surrounding the romance between Eva and Viktor. Both have doubts about their nature, as they do not know whether they are genuine human beings or not. There is also the ethical questioning about the use of memories of dead people, as well as the philosophical question: is human consciousness limited to memories only, regardless of where they are stored? Or is there something else, intangible, that technology has yet to replicate?

About The Author

Eduardo M. Rodrigues is the author of the thriller novella “The Black Flower” and the collection of short stories “The President and Other Stories”. “Eden Station” is his first foray into science fiction.

Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile accurately reflects the book.

Draw of Story

The story begins with space travel and introspective character exploration. There is also a sweet and wholesome romance between Eva and Viktor. It has an interesting mix of science fiction with the romance. The question of who is human and who is an android colors the discussions Eva and Viktor have.

Possible Drawbacks

The story has many beautiful moments of written correspondence. At times, they feel drawn out. The world building could be more in depth. Eva and Viktor live in the future on a base in space where people regularly travel to. There are some explanations of how Earth has changed in the future due to global warming and advancements in technology, but not enough to give a basis for the world they live in.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that Eva and Viktor fall madly in love but find out they are not humans. Eva learns that she is made up of a dead woman's memories and decides to honor the woman by ending her own existence. Viktor doesn't want to live without Eva and ends his own life to keep the memories of their love safe. Neither are successful when other versions of themselves meet again. I would watch this movie for the mix of intense romance with science fiction and the twist of androids falling in love.

Fanbase Potential

This could have a large fanbase. There is an increase in science fiction films that are very cerebral. This story would satiate those who love science fiction and romance without the happy ending. There is a uniqueness in them sacrificing themselves for their love but them being reborn at the desire of scientist.

Awards Potential

This could have awards potential. The world they live in would be interesting to see on screen. There is room for amazing visual effects and cinematography.

Analyst Recommendation

This story is a departure from large action filled science fiction stories. It is quieter and more psychological. It explores the idea of love and humanity from Eva and Viktor who think they are human. When they learn that they are not, they react in very emotional but intellectual ways. The journey with the characters is alluring and heart wrenching especially when they meet again in a new life.
