Development Pitch
The purpose of this book is to provide an amusing story that holds the reader’s attention long enough to educate about matters concerning medical and legal geriatric issues. In addition to the laughs and tears readers will share with staff and residents, they will also take away knowledge about how to better address legal matters and provide support and care for aging family. Each chapter reflects a month of activity at ‘The Home’, starting in June when readers meet head nurse Cookie, a large black woman who is the heart and soul of The Home, and her large cat, Blue, who has the uncanny ability to know when residents are going to die. There is intrigue in the Kelsey couple who are both being admitted into the same facility despite their uneasiness with each other after an ugly divorce. One of the most colorful characters is introduced, James Kirsch, a retired science teacher who believes he is Star Trek’s Captain Kirk. Delores Pelsa, believing she is Wonder Woman, escapes from The Home and sets everyone into a panic about security risks. Staff scheme to sneak out a resident to win a karaoke contest. Bonding time occurs between Kirsch and Koji, an ancient Japanese resident. August brings excitement when retired sea captain Duard Walls, stroke patient, gets a pet therapy animal, a ferret. Staff return items stolen by obnoxious Alice as she shops from room to room believing she is at the mall. And the fun continues. Each month is an episode and was designed as such.
