From the hills of Missouri to the top of the Twin Towers, and from the Florida swamps to the Brazilian beaches, God has refused to let His daughter get bored. Through life, loss, dreams, and disasters, He has proven His love and faithfulness.

Short Summary

Although timid by nature, I was always inspired by my family’s adventures. As I grew up in Missouri and then Oklahoma, I found the transformation from one stage of life to another sometimes painful. Like a butterfly, I endured the process until I could spread my wings and fly.

I laughed with my husband and children through our adventures building a house in the Florida boonies. We also had to trust God in sad situations. Following divorce and remarriage, I became the primary caregiver for my brain-injured husband for seven years, but learned to see humor even in crises!

Development Pitch

My stories and pioneer spirit stem from way back to my great-grandfather who signed on with a shipping company in Scotland and sailed to America – to my part-Cherokee grandmother who lived in a sod house – and my father who went west for a time and worked on a ranch in New Mexico. I was always timid but had a great childhood on our Missouri farm. Then I grew into my teen years in Oklahoma and married Ben, an Irish/Creek Indian, who was always into adventures, so I went along for the ride – literally – motorcycles, boats, planes. Following some trying years, we moved with our three children to Florida and decided to build a house. Instead of “Little House on The Prairie,” we had “Little Trailer in The Swamps!” We lived our own pioneering days with floods, snakes, alligators – and with no electricity for some time! Before we got the two-story house finished, Ben took a job with a large corporation in Nashville, so the kids and I were left to finish the house. It was a rocky road for the next few years until I finally filed for divorce. God was my Security as I ventured out into life alone once more, moving to Tennessee and trying my hand at acting. Then an old beau from my teen years called. We married and bought a farm. There were some good times until he became mentally and physically incapacitated, requiring total care for the next seven years. With the help of family and friends, I took care of him at home, and we still managed to laugh through it all and to be thankful.

About The Author

Dee Coffman has been a business owner, secretary, sporadic college student, pastor’s assistant, home builder, actress, short-term missionary, writer, and caregiver, but her greatest joy has been motherhood. She has often found herself in surprising new circumstances – some fun, some frantic, and some fanning the fires of her faith. Out of all those experiences come the stories of Caterpillar Toes and Butterfly Wings.
