Short Summary

In the early 1950s in a rural hamlet in southwestern Korea, a boy in his early teens, born in the year of the Tiger, works in the fields alongside his father, in between playing with his own handmade toys. Having just finished elementary school with no prospect of further schooling because of the poverty of his family, Hack-youn, true to his tiger birth sign, leaves home, alone and penniless, on a most daring and perilous journey in search of food and of knowledge, eventually taking himself from one of the most obscure corners of the world, crossing the Pacific Ocean on a cargo boat, to far-away America where he manages to earn his way through college, while supporting his starving family back in his hometown and later bringing them to America.

All along the way, always with his conviction of the Biblical precept of Ask, Seek & Knock, his adventurous epic journey is truly miraculous and inspirational.
