Development Pitch

Spies Like Us is a story on two levels. The first level is the story of two boys, raised in Texas, who are coming of age having been abandoned by their socialite mother and an inattentive father dedicated to his work in Paris, then Nigeria. The boys build their circle of friends including a beautiful red-head, a Hans Solo-type young pilot, and a recent transplant from Perth, AUS. The second level is the story of their father Kirby. He falls in love with a woman, Claire, in Paris, but then accepts a transfer to a sales pursuit in Nigeria. Later, she joins him there. There he renews a friendship with the President who is defending their democracy against a ruthless foe. There, he also uncovers a woman trafficking ring run by a rogue CIA unit and a corrupt US Congressman. After a gun battle, he must flee the county and find a covert way home, which he does with the help of his sons and their friends to bring the information to the right authorities. There are a number of themes that film audiences would like, and the action goes from being peaceful and routine to being deadly and frantic. There are parallels between the boys’ and the fathers story that are very interesting, including their teams of allies, and romantic interests. Two young and brilliant CIA agents die in defending the truth Kirby is carrying. The story is set in Nigeria and includes insights into their culture and politics. The ending is reunion for the family, and justice for the evil-doers.
