The Kodiak Hero follows the efforts of Donald Blanc and first responders following a devastating plane crash during a freak summer storm in the wilds of Kodiak, Alaska.



Short Summary

Opens with the plane crash followed by an explanation of the radio chatter of the charter company who owned the plane and was first notified of the crash.

Follows the miraculous recovery of the survivors, their hospital transfers and the births of babies who should not have survived the crash as well as comments from other pilots who flew over the crash site and recognized no one should have survived. The story ends with hope for the future.

Development Pitch

Based on a story of survival of an Alaskan plane crash which left Donald and Afton Blanc and several passengers alone and abandoned on a rocky and unreachable mountaintop. With the airplane on fire, the pilot incapacitated with two broken legs, a dying copilot, a little boy, and two pregnant woman, Donald Blanc works to signal search and rescue. In a wreck like this, survival is near impossible. The Coast Guard doesn't believe there could be survivors. With thick fog and worsening conditions and a reluctant search and rescue team, how can the ordinary man do the extraordinary to save six lives when all seems lost? The Kodiak Hero follows the efforts of Donald Blanc and the first responders who risked life and limb to save those who should have been left for dead.

About The Author

B. Blanc was raised and lived in Idaho for 30 years. In1978 she packed up the kids, dog and cat and drove the Alaska/Canadian (ALCAN ) highway to Fairbanks, Alaska. After surviving -50 degree weather, nine months of winter and 12 feet of snow for 18 years she relocated to Soldotna, Alaska. A commercial salmon fisherman during the summer months in Bristol Bay Alaska in the Bering Sea, living and working in such a remote area is fun to her. She enjoys sport fishing, horse back riding, reading, long walks with her little dog Romeo, traveling the world, meetings and making new friends, and keeping in touch with old friends. A love of cars that are old and new, but most important fast ones. Four grown children, 13 grandchildren and one grandson in law. Life is an adventure to be lived.
