    Synopsis

During a 1057 battle in what would one day become Spain, an intense battle is underway. The king wrestles away a priceless weapon from Alexander the Great. It is in the form of Egyptian obelisks that hold the awesome and mysterious power Alexander used to conquer nations.

In present day Napa Valley, Maddy Marshall, app designer and assistant Aikido instructor, drives with AJ, a foster child from her dojo, to her father’s home on a vineyard. She arrives to find that her somewhat estranged twin brother, Will, is also there. They hear gunshots coming from a sniper’s rifle. Upon rushing inside, they discover that their father and Will’s wife, Maria, have been fatally shot.

In his dying breath, their father tells the twins to go to his attorney’s office where they will get information that has been concealed all these years by Ramino, an ancient royal ancestor. Maddy sends AJ back home with her younger sister, Bella, to keep him out of harm’s way, before leaving the vineyard. The attorney sends them on a quest to find Alexander the Great’s weapon. They team up with a high school friend called Bear, a Marine who has unrequited feelings for Maddy. Though he has a lot of brawn, he also possesses a vast knowledge of history and can help them along the way. They embark on a journey that takes them to a Spanish castle, tunnels below the city of Jerusalem, a mountaintop monastery, and into the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. All the while they are being pursued by Ivan, a Russian sniper, and his cronies.

When they find the secret weapon they also learn that their grandfather is behind the murders of his own son and Will’s wife. He did this to set them on the journey that would uncover the ancient power source that he could use to gain the power of the Spanish throne. Using Bear’s knowledge of history, Will’s affinity for science and Maddy’s Aikido skills, they are able to defeat their grandfather, the Russians and curb the awesome power, keeping it from being unleashed upon an unsuspecting world.

Back stateside, Bear and Maddy continue their blossoming relationship, and Maddy plans to adopt AJ. Bear soon brings news from the agency. They want to hire both Maddy and Will to work with them as well. Maddy and Will have a lot to think over as the book concludes.
