Development Pitch

Story is 80% auto biographical....growing up in the 50s and 60s in a Pa. coal town, coming of age and in the process going from typical high school geek to local stud....but lost in the quagmire of the late 60s and 70s, leaving college and almost getting trapped in factory life until he accidently enters the beauty industry. At that point a whole new world of sexual pleasure is his....hes cocky, arrogant, and self serving and cant keep it in his pants...works for a national salon chain in the 70s and 80s...and life is all sex and drugs....but then...he meets Meeka, in New York City.....and his entire life is not only turned around, but she leads him on a path of redemption and a whole new mind set... **please keep in mind....this is NOT a comedic mall romp ala Fast Time At Ridgemont High, but rather a somewhat serious black comedy, in the footsteps of "Shampoo"

Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, it is accurate, even though there are some characters lacking in the description.

Draw of Story

The fact that it is a story based on true occurrences. The hook is clear from the very start.

Possible Drawbacks

The story is filled with misogyny and negative portrayal of women. It could be written in a way that showed that the protagonist's actions and thoughts weren't necessarily good, correct or socially acceptable nowadays.

Use of Special Effects

THE STORY DOES NOT RELY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

Primary Hook of Story

The portrait of a decade of drugs and sex through the eyes of a true witness and participant.

Fanbase Potential

That's hardly the case, especially because the focus of the story feels too personal and it would be difficult to attract a large public.

Awards Potential

Not at all, it seems too self-centered and filled with sex to please any Awards voters.

Envisioned Budget

LOW BUDGET

What’s New About the Story

There is not much original to it, except from challenging the prejudice that hairstylists tend do be homosexual. However, the protagonists' sexual adventures could be developed in a more original way for it to be more unique.

Lead Characters

The protagonist is self-centered, constantly selfish and an incorrigible womanizer.

Uniqueness of Story

Not really. It would need to have a more interesting and compelling story to tell in order to really become a rare gem.

Analyst Recommendation

WORK IN PROGRESS

Justification

It is a work in progress because, first of all, the whole plot is not interesting or intriguing enough to be adapted into a movie. Even though it continues to advance throughout the protagonist's life, the story has not many different things or compelling occurrences that could move or engage the audience. The way it is told, it feels as if it's only a handful of situations of his life that don't connect into a larger story. Furthermore, the writer doesn't seem to have experience developing screenplays, so the script would have to be reviewed and rewritten. As it is now, it doesn't contain any scene headings and, in general, doesn't follow the Master Scenes format. Other than that, even though the author has a good eye for dialogues, they tend to sound constantly misogynistic and dissociated from modern sensibility, which could lead to bigger criticism against the narrative.

Tips for Improvement

The main changes would have to be to the story's plot and narrative structure. To avoid becoming a tedious feature, the script would have to display better marked turning points and a wholesome journey for the protagonist. Furthermore, for it to work, it is necessary to review the way the protagonist and the narrative itself deals with women. Not only the lead character is constantly misogynistic, cheats and mistreats the women he deals with, but the plot itself seems to support his actions. In fact, at a certain point, he seems to put the blame for his marriage failings on his wife, even though he was the chronically unfaithful one. All these aspects would most certainly encounter resistance from the public in an age when this is too delicate a matter to deal with so leniently. With a more compelling, careful and better structured script, there would be bigger chances for success in a screen adaptation.
